Stalking
Red and Sika Stags in the Highlands
The estate offers exceptional stalking for both red and sika stags, available from mid-July through to mid-October.
Red Stags
Summer stalking begins in July, when the red stags are in prime condition. High on the mountain tops, these stags pose a challenge for the stalker, but the reward of a successful hunt after a long day’s walk is unmatched. The last week of September through October marks the red rut, a magical time when the glen is filled with the dramatic roars of the stags, accompanied by shifting autumn colours and ever-changing weather—a truly unforgettable experience.
Sika Stags
The non-native sika stag has thrived on the west coast and provides an exciting stalking experience, as well as prized venison. While sika can often be found on the open hills, they are more commonly located at the edges of woodlands. By mid-September, the eerie whistles of the sika stags fill the glen, signaling the start of the rut. This unique call can aid in the stalking, as the stags respond well to the sound, offering a different kind of pursuit compared to the red stags.
